China to South America

China–South America Freight: FCL, LCL & Air

Yihang Shipping is a China-based freight forwarder for shipping from China to South America by ocean FCL, ocean LCL, and air, including Argentina, Venezuela, and other Atlantic and Pacific gateways when you name the port or city. East-coast South America (for example Buenos Aires and Venezuelan ports) and west-coast gateways (for example Callao and Chilean ports) follow different sailing patterns; direct strings and transshipment hubs are compared on your quote, not listed as averages here. Transit time and cost are confirmed per shipment. Ocean and air on this lane are quoted prepaid only.

See which mode to ask for.

This does not invent a freight rate. It uses the lane and the volume to point at FCL, LCL, air, or rail, then opens a quote with those facts filled in.

Planning note

Add a volume if you have one.

Without CBM, the table on this page is the whole answer. With CBM, we point at one mode and draft the quote.

How to plan this lane

Windows below are how the trade plans the move. They are not a Yihang booking.

Mode Planning window When it fits
Ocean FCL China load port to the South American discharge named on the quote, direct or via transshipment. Total port-to-port time depends on the rotation and coast (Atlantic vs Pacific). Dalian and other North China ports often add a feeder first. Full loads from about 15 CBM, reefer boxes, multi-container projects, and cargo that should stay in one box.
Ocean LCL Consolidation in China, ocean leg including any hub connection, and deconsolidation at destination or a regional CFS. End-to-end time is confirmed at quotation. Smaller commercial lots, usually under about 12 CBM, when cargo is stackable and not restricted.
Air freight Airport-to-airport when the project date cannot survive feeder plus ocean and hub time. Customs and delivery at destination are coordinated on the quote. Urgent parts, samples, and high-value cargo that cannot wait for the sea route.

Routing: Atlantic vs Pacific South America

  • Atlantic-facing destinations (Argentina, Uruguay, much of Brazil, and Venezuela’s main container ports) are usually planned on sailings that discharge on the east coast of South America or connect through a transshipment hub named on the quote.
  • Pacific-facing destinations (Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and western Colombia) use west-coast ports such as Callao or San Antonio / Valparaíso. See the dedicated pages linked below rather than assuming the same rotation as Buenos Aires.
  • Direct sailings from China to every South American port are not available every week. When no direct string fits your cargo-ready date, the quote states each leg and prepaid charge.
  • Cross-trade from other Asian origins uses the same discharge and customs rules; only the first leg origin changes. Prepaid quoting applies from the load port you name.

Argentina — shipping from China

  • Buenos Aires is the main container gateway for much of Argentina. Rosario and other ports handle specific cargo types; name the delivery city so inland trucking is priced with the ocean leg.
  • Import clearance is administered by Argentina’s customs authority under ARCA (Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero). Importers work with a licensed customs broker; the importer’s CUIT (tax ID) must be valid for the operation your broker confirms.
  • Typical shipping documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, and the import entry your broker files. Product licences, certificates, or labelling rules may apply by HS code — confirm before cargo sails.
  • Sea freight China to Argentina is usually FCL or LCL into Buenos Aires; air is quoted when the timeline is tight. Yihang clears export in China on its AEO file; Argentine import entry stays with your broker unless the quote says otherwise.

Venezuela — China to Venezuela freight

  • La Guaira and Puerto Cabello are the usual ocean gateways for container and general cargo. Maracaibo and other ports may apply for project or breakbulk cargo — send the destination address, not only the country name.
  • The Servicio Nacional Integrado de Administración Aduanera y Tributaria (SENIAT) administers customs and tax at import. Importers work with a licensed broker; required registrations and documents are confirmed for your HS code before load.
  • Many sailings reach Venezuelan ports after transshipment; the quote names each prepaid leg. Transit is confirmed per shipment — not taken from a public average on this page.
  • Multi-container inquiries, restricted cargo, and OOG pieces need container count, weights, and dimensions on the first request so stowage stays aligned through the hub.

FCL vs LCL vs air to South America

  • FCL sea freight: 20-foot, 40-foot, high-cube, open-top, flat-rack, or reefer from your China load port to a South American port or door. Typical from about 15 CBM up, or when cargo must not be deconsolidated.
  • LCL sea freight: shared container space to a regional gateway, then deconsolidation. Usually under about 12 CBM for stackable general cargo. Between 12 and 15 CBM, ask for both FCL and LCL.
  • Air freight: priced when production or project dates cannot survive ocean plus hub time. Export from China and import at destination remain separate steps on the quote.

Difficult cargo, project cargo, and multi-container files

  • Out-of-gauge and heavy lift: open-top and flat-rack containers when the piece can be lifted and lashed; breakbulk or project cargo when it cannot.
  • Wider site lists (machinery plus steel): see project cargo and send the full scope on one inquiry.
  • Non-stackable cargo may not suit LCL and can reduce usable vessel space. Send photos, lift points, and center of gravity.
  • Dangerous goods: UN number, class, and packing group before space is named. See dangerous goods shipping.
  • Reefer: setpoint and ventilation must match the commodity. See reefer container shipping.
  • Multi-container inquiries: send the full container count, commodity mix, and whether all boxes must arrive together; the desk plans one or several sailings accordingly.

Prepaid freight terms

  • Ocean and air freight from China on this lane are quoted prepaid only. Yihang does not offer freight collect.
  • The reply separates origin charges, the international leg(s), and destination services you request (for example port handling, CFS, or trucking).
  • Duties, taxes, and broker fees at destination are not hidden inside the ocean line unless your quote explicitly includes them under an incoterm you confirmed (for example DAP or DDP when available for that lane).

Anonymised planning example: multi-container cargo to Argentina and Venezuela

  • A machinery supplier and a separate industrial buyer (no company or person names here) each requested prepaid ocean options from North China within the same month: one file was several 40-foot high-cube boxes of packaged equipment to Buenos Aires; the other was a mix of flat-rack and dry containers with steel frames to Puerto Cabello, with pieces up to about 11 m long and one rack load near 18 t.
  • For Buenos Aires, the desk compared a direct string versus a hub-and-feeder plan when the cargo-ready week had no suitable direct call, keeping the same container count on one quote page.
  • For Puerto Cabello, transshipment legs were priced together with terminal acceptance for over-width rack stow at the load port and at the hub named on the reply.
  • Export clearance stayed on Yihang’s AEO file for both files; Argentine and Venezuelan import entries were left to each buyer’s broker, with invoice and packing list aligned to the marks before load.
  • No transit days or freight rates are published here — both shippers received prepaid options confirmed at quotation.

How to get a China to South America quote

  • Use the quote form on this page, email hello@yihang-shipping.com, or WhatsApp +86 138 4269 5704 with commodity, weight, volume, China origin, South American destination, incoterm, and ready date.
  • For Argentina or Venezuela, name the port or city — not only “South America”. For project cargo, include container count and dimensions.
  • The reply names the mode, transshipment plan when applicable, and what the prepaid rate includes. It does not publish a live tariff sheet.

  • Tianjin / Xingang
  • Qingdao
  • Shanghai

  • Cross-trade from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Southeast Asia when cargo does not load in China

What goes wrong on this lane

The quote stopped at a hub, not at Buenos Aires or La Guaira

South America-bound cargo often moves in two or more legs when the rotation has no direct call to your discharge port. A prepaid rate that only covers China to the hub is not a landed plan until the connecting leg, terminal handling, and destination charges are on the same page.

Atlantic and Pacific gateways were mixed on one file

Argentina and Venezuela are usually planned on Atlantic or Caribbean-facing rotations. Peru and Chile use Pacific ports. Sending only “South America” without a city or port sends the desk in the wrong direction.

Argentine or Venezuelan customs data was not aligned with the B/L

Each country has its own tax authority and import entry rules. Invoice, packing list, and transport document must match what your licensed broker files. Yihang clears export in China on its AEO file; import entry stays with your broker unless the quote says otherwise.

Multi-container or OOG projects were priced as one dry FCL

Several boxes for one site, flat rack, open top, breakbulk, or DG need stowage and equipment planned before the first vessel is named. Container count, dimensions, and lift points belong on the first inquiry.

LCL was chosen for heavy or non-stackable cargo

Under about 12 CBM, LCL suits stackable general cargo. Dense machinery, steel, or non-stackable pieces often need a full container or special equipment regardless of cube. Deconsolidation at destination adds time and cost.

What to send

  • Commercial invoice and packing list (aligned with HS description and value)
  • Bill of lading or air waybill consigned as your broker or agent requires
  • Commodity description and HS code if known
  • Gross weight and CBM, or container type, quantity, and dimensions for OOG
  • China pickup city and South American port or delivery address
  • Incoterm, cargo-ready date, importer registration details, and broker contact at destination

Questions shippers ask

How does shipping from China to South America work?

Most cargo moves ocean FCL or LCL from a China load port to an Atlantic or Pacific gateway, often with transshipment when no direct rotation fits your week. Air is used when the date cannot survive that chain. Yihang quotes pickup in China, export clearance, the international legs, and destination services you request. Transit is confirmed on the quote, not guessed from a blog.

Can you ship from China to Argentina?

Yes. Commercial cargo usually enters via Buenos Aires by FCL or LCL, then clears through Argentine customs with your broker under ARCA rules. Send the supplier city, Buenos Aires or final address, and cargo details for a prepaid quote.

What about China to Venezuela freight?

La Guaira and Puerto Cabello are the usual ocean ports. Multi-container and out-of-gauge projects are quoted from weights, dimensions, and container count. SENIAT rules apply at import; your broker confirms documents and duties for your HS code.

Should I use a Pacific or Atlantic port for my destination?

Match the port to the country and city: Argentina and Venezuela are Atlantic-side plans; Peru and Chile use Pacific ports such as Callao or San Antonio. Send the delivery address so the quote does not mix coasts.

Do you handle out-of-gauge, reefer, or dangerous goods to South America?

Yes, when dimensions, product data, and the destination broker path are known. Flat rack, open top, reefer, DG, and breakbulk are quoted from measurements and UN details, not from a standard dry-container rate.

Where are Peru, Chile, and Brazil covered?

This page focuses on Argentina and Venezuela plus routing context. Peru: /insights/china-to-peru-shipping/ and /es/carga-consolidada-china-peru/. Chile: /es/equipo-minero-chile/. Brazil: /pt/frete-maritimo-china-brasil/. Mexico and Caribbean: /lanes/china-to-mexico/ and /lanes/china-to-caribbean/.

Should I book FCL or LCL from China to South America?

Under about 12 CBM, LCL is usually the ocean option for stackable general cargo. From about 15 CBM, FCL is often cleaner. Between those, price both. Heavy, dense, non-stackable, reefer, or DG cargo may need FCL or special equipment regardless of cube.

Do you offer freight collect to South America?

No. Ocean and air freight on this lane are quoted prepaid. The reply names origin charges, the international leg, and any destination services you asked for.
