Guide

China to Peru: the port is Callao, the door is often further.

To ship from China to Peru, most containers sail from Shanghai, Ningbo or other Chinese ports to Callao, the main port for Lima, then clear Peruvian customs (SUNAT) and are trucked to the final address. Chancay, Paita and Salaverry are alternatives depending on the sailing and the destination. Yihang Shipping in Dalian quotes the full route, including clearance and inland delivery through trusted local partners, under DAP, DPU or DDP.

How do you ship from China to Peru, step by step?

  1. Send the inquiry: loading city in China, full delivery address in Peru, Incoterm, cargo description, HS code if known, pallet sizes and weights, and ready date.
  2. Yihang plans the container: number and type (20', 40', 40' high cube, open top or flat rack), based on floor space for non-stackable cargo.
  3. Agree the Incoterm and who acts as importer in Peru. Confirm the importer's RUC and whether the goods need a Peruvian permit.
  4. Book the sailing to Callao, or to Chancay, Paita or Salaverry if that suits the address better.
  5. Pickup or delivery to the Chinese port, export customs clearance in China, and loading. Wood packaging must carry the ISPM 15 mark.
  6. Documents go to the importer and broker: bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, and any certificate of origin or permit.
  7. Peruvian customs clearance with SUNAT through a licensed customs broker, arranged through Yihang's trusted local partners when the quote includes it.
  8. Inland trucking to the door, for example Lima, Huacho or another town, and unloading if the term is DPU or DDP.

Which Peruvian port should I ship to?

  • Callao: the main container port for Lima and central Peru, and the usual choice
  • Chancay: a newer deep-water port north of Lima. Whether a sailing calls there is the line’s decision
  • Paita and Salaverry: serve northern Peru and may be closer to an address in the north
  • Choose the port by total cost to the door: ocean freight plus port charges plus the inland leg
  • Yihang ships from Chinese ports to Callao and to basically all major ports worldwide

Which Chinese ports and routes can I ship from?

  • Shanghai and Ningbo are common loading ports for Peru. Qingdao, Dalian, Tianjin, Xiamen and Shenzhen ports are also options depending on the factory
  • Factories inland can truck or barge to the loading port; the quote should include that leg
  • Some sailings go direct and others transship at a hub. Ask about the routing, not only the price
  • No transit time is promised on this page. The quote names the routing and a planning window

How is the inland leg to a town outside Lima arranged?

  • A delivery to Huacho or another town is a separate inland leg after customs. Put the full street address on the inquiry
  • Confirm the address can receive a 40-foot truck and whether there is a forklift or crane to unload
  • Decide whether the container is unloaded on site (driver waits) or the cargo is devanned at a depot and delivered loose
  • Yihang arranges this leg through trusted local partners, so clearance and delivery are on one quote

Which Incoterm should I use: DAP, DPU or DDP?

  • FOB or EXW: the buyer controls freight from China. Simple for the seller, more work for the buyer
  • CIF or CFR: the seller pays freight to Callao; the buyer handles clearance and the inland leg
  • DAP: the seller delivers to the named place, ready for unloading. The buyer unloads, clears customs and pays duty and taxes
  • DPU: the same, but the seller also unloads at the named place. Useful when the buyer has no equipment on site
  • DDP: the seller also clears import and pays Peruvian duty and taxes. This needs a party that can act as importer in Peru
  • Name the place precisely: ‘DPU Huacho, [street address]’, not ‘DPU Peru’. Insurance is not included by default

How do I plan containers for non-stackable cargo?

  • Non-stackable pallets use floor area. A container can run out of floor long before it runs out of cubic metres
  • Send pallet length, width, height and weight for every pallet type, and mark which cannot take weight on top
  • A 40-foot high cube gives roughly twice the floor of a 20-foot. Try the container-fit tool before quoting
  • Very tall or wide units may need an open top or flat rack, booked separately
  • Heavy units still need weight spread across the floor and secured. Lashing is part of the plan

What documents does Peruvian customs require?

  • Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading that match on description, quantity and weight
  • The importer’s RUC (taxpayer number) registered with SUNAT
  • A certificate of origin when claiming a preferential duty rate under the China–Peru free trade agreement
  • Permits from Peruvian agencies for regulated goods (for example food, health, telecom or agricultural products) before arrival
  • Import charges are assessed on the CIF value: ad valorem duty by tariff line, plus IGV and IPM. Check current rates with SUNAT or your broker
  • Wood pallets and crates must carry the ISPM 15 mark

What causes delays from China to Peru, and how do I avoid them?

  • Documents that do not match: check invoice, packing list and bill of lading against each other before the vessel sails
  • Missing permit for regulated goods: confirm with the broker before booking, not after arrival
  • Wood packaging without ISPM 15: use marked pallets or plastic pallets
  • Incomplete delivery address or no unloading equipment: confirm both when quoting
  • Sailing changes or transshipment rolls: keep a margin in the delivery plan
  • Unclear Incoterm or importer: decide who imports and who pays duty before production ends

Questions shippers ask

How do I ship from China to Peru?

Book sea freight from a Chinese port such as Shanghai or Ningbo to Callao, clear Peruvian customs with SUNAT through a licensed broker, and truck the cargo to the address. Yihang can quote the full route, including clearance and delivery through trusted local partners.

Which port should I use for Peru?

For Lima and central Peru, Callao is the usual choice. Chancay is an option when the line calls there. For the north, Paita or Salaverry may be closer. Send the delivery address and the quote compares the port with the inland leg.

Can you deliver from China to a town outside Lima, such as Huacho?

Yes. The quote can include customs clearance and trucking from the port to the address, arranged through trusted local partners, if the full address and unloading conditions are on the inquiry.

What is the difference between DPU and DDP to Peru?

Under DPU the seller delivers and unloads at the named place, and the buyer clears Peruvian customs and pays duty and taxes. Under DDP the seller also clears import and pays those duties and taxes, which requires a party that can import into Peru.

What import taxes apply in Peru?

Customs assesses ad valorem duty by tariff line plus IGV and IPM on the CIF value. Rates depend on the product and any free-trade preference. Check current rates with SUNAT or a licensed customs broker.

What documents does Peru customs need?

A commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, the importer’s RUC, and any permit the product needs. A certificate of origin supports a preferential rate under the China–Peru FTA. A licensed broker files the declaration with SUNAT.

How do you quote non-stackable cargo?

By floor area and weight, not total cubic metres. Send the size and weight of every pallet type and mark which cannot be stacked. The reply says how many containers and of what type.

Can you ship dangerous goods from China to Peru?

Yes. Yihang handles all classes of dangerous goods, including lithium batteries, subject to carrier acceptance and correct documents such as the SDS, UN38.3 summary where relevant, and the dangerous goods declaration.

Do you ship LCL to Peru?

Send the cargo details and Yihang will compare LCL with a full container. For small volumes LCL can make sense; for non-stackable or heavy cargo a full container is often simpler.

Is there a rate or a transit time on this page?

No. Rates change by line and by week, and the inland leg depends on the address. The quote names the routing and a planning window, not a guarantee.
