Import expo: food, autos, medical, industry, consumer goods

CIIE Shanghai

The 9th China International Import Expo runs November 5–10, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Booth construction starts October 27, exhibits are placed until November 4, and the return shipment begins on the evening of November 10. Exhibits enter China on an ATA carnet or as temporary imports, and the venue works through appointed home-court forwarders. Yihang Shipping moves the cargo to Shanghai, prepares the China-side paperwork with the exhibitor, and takes sold or returning goods onward after the show. The appointed forwarder handles the venue.

Planning CIIE Shanghai

  • Build-up from October 27, exhibit placement until November 4, show November 5–10, return shipment from 19:00 on November 10, move-out November 11–12.
  • An ATA carnet for China must be in English, with the purpose marked as exhibition. The broker registers it with CCPIT before the import declaration.
  • Wooden packing needs a valid IPPC mark, and the exhibitor sends a fumigation or non-wood declaration with the bill of lading or air waybill.
  • Exhibits under temporary admission cannot leave the venue without approval. A piece sold at the show becomes a formal import, unless it qualifies under the expo’s retention policy.

Customs in China

  • China accepts the ATA carnet for exhibitions and fairs. The carnet must be in English, with the purpose marked as exhibition.
  • For freight, the China customs broker registers the carnet electronically with CCPIT before the import declaration.
  • Without a carnet, exhibits enter as temporary imports with a deposit or guarantee, and must leave or be converted within the time allowed.
  • Wooden packing needs a valid IPPC mark. Without it, or without a non-wood packaging declaration, customs can destroy the goods or order them back.
  • Temporarily imported exhibits cannot be sold on the floor. A piece that stays becomes a formal import with duty and VAT.

Questions exhibitors ask

Do I have to use the CIIE appointed forwarder?

Inside the venue, yes. The exhibitor manual routes exhibit handling, temporary-admission supervision, and on-site storage through the appointed home-court forwarders. Yihang works on the legs outside that: the international move to Shanghai, document preparation, and what happens to sold or returning exhibits afterward. The quote states the handover point.

When must exhibits arrive in Shanghai for CIIE 2026?

Count back from the placement window that ends November 4, and from the appointed forwarder’s own receiving deadline in the manual, which is earlier. Ocean cargo also needs customs release before delivery. The quote writes the latest sailing.

Can exhibits stay in China after CIIE?

Yes, if they are declared as a permanent import, or under the expo’s retention policy if the piece qualifies. Decide before the show, not on move-out day, because duty, tax, and the buyer’s import paperwork have to be ready.
